It has been a busy month for the Artisans and for Neil and I in particular. The month kicked off with an evening fixture away to Betchworth which we lost 4-2. The Captain incurring his first fine of the month for forgetting his shoes and having to buy a new pair for £70, and Steve Smith living up to his reputation by devouring 3 puddings in quick succession!
May 9th saw our most important match of the year against L'Ancresse for the Miss Paul Salver. Although several of our low handicap players were unavailable, we took a 6-4 lead at lunchtime. The afternoon session was very 'touch and go', but Glen and Steve Hawkins brought home the bacon for the winning point. A huge 'Thank You' to all our players for saving my season, and also to my manicurist who had to work overtime the next day.
The evening Presentation Dinner was a huge success and any outstanding payments should be made as soon as possible please. The match against the Ladies took place on 16th, and, as always, was a lot of fun.We played Greensomes format with Sarah Frasier and Steve Marshal victorious on a magnificent 43 points.
Other results;Surrey 7's 'B' v Banstead-Won. v Ridgemount-Halved. v Coulsdon Court-Lost. This years mass divot was very successful, and appreciated by the Head Greenkeeper. It was encouraging to hear from him beforehand and to know that our efforts do not go unnoticed.
Three of our members caddied in the Qualifier, and it is great credit to our club that two of the three got their man to this years U.S.Open at Pinehurst. Well done Gerrard and Daniel.
